a blanket covering a pocket
of rusty old nails
spikes sticking into rotting wood
split and splintered
such a waste of potential

a rocket blasts towards the moon
course altered trajectory
a deafening sound, a brilliant light
a shower of embers and metal slivers
collapsing hopes and dreams
a generation weeps

forgotten by the limelight
a rundown shack on the edge of a swamp
an old man rocks slowly
in his wooden chair
the glow lost of the eyes
a fading memory

a majestic palace once host to extravagance
abandoned and run down
graffiti elegantly whispers
the length of its depreciation
a slight interest looms
an implosion, a collapsing end

a young man’s dreams come crashing down
falling into a void
slowly losing his grip
he comes to the conclusion
that nothing lasts forever
